Founded in 1999, Swept Away Chimney Sweep is a friendly, family-run business providing clean, reliable and professional chimney sweeping services throughout Bath, Bristol and the surrounding counties.
With more than 25 years of experience, we specialise in chimney sweeping, stove servicing, flue inspections and chimney safety for period properties, modern homes and everything in between.
Qualified, Experienced and Local
Owner Rory McBride is the only chimney sweep in Bath & North East Somerset (BANES) to hold the prestigious Level 2 NVQ in Chimney Sweeping – the only nationally recognised vocational qualification in chimney sweeping currently available in the UK.
Out of thousands of working chimney sweeps nationwide, only around 260 have successfully achieved this qualification. Rory's NVQ demonstrates independently assessed competence across chimneys, fireplaces, flues, stoves and fuel types.
Rory is also an accredited HETAS Technician, trained in the inspection, servicing and maintenance of solid fuel and wood-burning appliances.
A Lifetime Around Chimneys
Rory began sweeping alongside his father in Ireland as a teenager and has spent decades refining his skills through ongoing training, professional development and collaboration with experienced chimney sweeps across the UK and Europe.
His experience is particularly valuable in Bath's historic and listed buildings, where older chimney systems often require specialist knowledge and a careful approach.
A Unique Technical Background
Alongside chimney sweeping, Rory is also a qualified arborist, forester and tree surgeon.
Years spent assessing airflow, structural integrity, risk management and safe working at height provide a unique perspective that transfers directly to chimney diagnostics, flue performance and chimney safety. It is an unusual combination of skills that helps distinguish Swept Away from many other chimney sweeping businesses.
