Founded in 1999, Swept Away Chimney Sweep is a friendly, family-run business providing a clean, reliable and professional chimney sweeping service.
With over 25 years of experience, we work across Bath, Bristol and surrounding counties.
Owner Rory McBride is the only chimney sweep in BANES to hold the prestigious Level 2 NVQ in Chimney Sweeping — the UK’s nationally recognised professional standard for chimney sweeps. The NVQ is the only formal qualification in the UK that legally allows a sweep to call themselves qualified.
Achieving this award is exceptionally demanding. It requires years of training and experience, followed by a rigorous, lengthy, and comprehensive assessment carried out by an independent GQA Assessor — one of a very small number of universally respected senior chimney sweeps entrusted to examine candidates at the highest level. Only the most experienced and competent sweeps in the country are even eligible to attempt it.
Across the whole of the UK, only around 250 chimney sweeps have successfully achieved this qualification. Rory’s NVQ demonstrates proven competence across all stoves, fireplaces, chimneys, flues, and fuel types, backed by decades of hands‑on experience in Bath’s unique heritage properties.
Rory is also recognised by the Federation of British Chimney Sweeps and has completed relevant HETAS training.

Rory began sweeping alongside his father in Ireland more than 30 years ago and continues to refine his skills through regular training and industry networking across the UK and beyond. Rory is also a fully qualified tree surgeon, arborist, and forester — a background that gives him a unique technical edge as a chimney sweep. Years spent assessing tree structure, airflow, draught patterns, and safe working at height translate directly into safer, cleaner, more precise chimney‑sweeping practice. This combination of qualifications is exceptionally rare in the industry and further reinforces the professionalism behind Swept Away Bath.
